Catalogue Note
A remarkable set of nineteenth-century performing parts for Mozart's Requiem, which offer a view on to a century of performance history of the Requiem in Vienna. The presence of 'WELHARTIZ' paper in some of the parts suggests that these may date from around the second decade of the nineteenth century (this paper in Beethoven's autographs, for example, can be dated to c.1816-1817). The full score of the Requiem was published by Breitkopf in 1800, the parts in 1812 by Chemische Druckerei (Vienna). One note on the wrapper indicates that the parts were used to perform the Requiem on the occasion of the death of Emperor Franz Joseph I in 1916.
