1) the full score for voice and instruments notated in brown ink on up to twenty staves per page, containing parallel versions of the vocal part with French words and German words (the German version written in red ink), with many autograph additions and annotations by liszt including the title above the music ("Jeanne d'Arc"), corrections to the French text, tempo, expression and instrumental markings, the Stichvorlage, and with markings by and for the printer in pencil (including by Liszt), 22 pages; 2) the two instrumental parts for trumpet and timpani, notated by another scribe, with additional phrasing and dynamic markings by Liszt, with a brief pencil sketch for the trumpet fanfare (marked by the scribe "Harpa"), 24 pages in all, including autograph title, folio (36 x 27cms.), 20-stave paper, contemporary marbled wrappers c.1874-1876, staining and inky fingerprints from use by the printer, some browning

Catalogue Note

Liszt wrote this song originally in 1845 (Raabe 586), when it was orchestrated by Conradi. Liszt revised the orchestration in 1858 and again in about 1874.  We are happy to acknowledge the assistance of Dr Rena Charnin Mueller in our cataloguing of this lot.
