Catalogue Note

Rare. Composition formed an important part of Furtwängler's creative life, from childhood until his death (a note on the title-page of the piano Fantasie indicates that this piece was composed while Furtwängler was only ten). The Third Symphony, left incomplete at the conductor's death, provides a good example of Furtwängler's neo-Romantic composing style - 'a highly personal extension of the twin traditions of Bruckner and Brahms' (TNG). Furtwängler's autograph draft for the Third Symphony is preserved in the Zurich Central Library.
