Catalogue Note

This is an important manuscript, showing the contribution made by Albert Sammons (1886-1957) to the concerto composed for him by Delius.   Sammons edited the solo part and even made a few revisions that were incorporated in later editions. There is a short revised passage in the violin part, 3 bars before Fig.11, which Sammons has re-written, transferring it also into the printed piano part.  Sammons, who also performed Elgar's Concerto under the composer many times,  was one of the leading English violinists of his day. He gave the first performance of Delius's concerto on 30 January 1919.
