Catalogue Note
Metius (1571-1635) spent time on Hven with Tycho Brahe (see lot 189) before becoming professor of mathematics and astronomy at Franeker in 1600, where Descartes attended his lectures.
The first part of this volume, Arithmetica et geometria nova, was reissued in 1626 by Elzevir with an engraved title-page.
