Catalogue Note

The piano trio formed by Casals, Cortot and Thibaud was one of the legendary ensembles of the twentieth century.  They made a celebrated recording of Schubert's Piano Trio in B-flat, D.898, evidently the piece performed here on 3 June 1931 (at the "Concerts Ysaye" in Brussels).  The separate signed portrait of Casals shows him at a concert with Ysaye on 13 December 1930, performing the Lalo Cello Concerto and Ysaye's own "Dédication".  Wiener's  drawing of Kreisler shows him at a concert  at the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels, where he performed concertos by Beethoven and Vivaldi.
