Catalogue Note
This manuscript is remarkable for the light that the abundant and richly-worked sketches throw on the creation of this fine song-cycle, using poems also set by Debussy. 'Colloque sentimental' (from FĂȘtes galantes II) was first performed by Alison Smart and Katherine Durran at the Purcell Room on 13 July 2004, and the entire cycle by Patricia Rozario and Julius Drake at the Wigmore Hall on 28 September 2007. Last year, John Casken's Orion over Farne (1984)was performed at the BBC Proms.
