- Autograph letter signed ("Minna Wagner") to Princess Carolyne zu Sayn-Wittgenstein, about the Wagners' sojourn with the Wesendonks in Zurich
- 1857
in which Minna relates how Wagner's health and nerves suffered from their privations and isolation, when they greatly missed the delightful time they had with the Princess and Liszt; she describes how Otto Wesendonk and his family came to their rescue, putting a house and garden in Zurich ("idealisches Häuschen") at their disposal, expressing relief that Wagner's health will be restored and composition will progress with such agreeable neighbours, 4 pages, 8vo (c.22 x 14cms), Zurich, 6 February 1857

Catalogue Note
"...[Wagner] in letzterer Zeit...war sehr angeggriffen, besonders die Kopfnerven...Keine Seele sahen wir bei uns and gingen auch zu niemandem, wir wollten uns die Genüsse und schönen Eindrücke, welche Sie und unser theurer Freund Liszt hinterlassen, durch keine Zerstreuung verwischen...Wir hatten das hübsche Haus, mit dem reitzenden Garten, schon mehrer Jahre beliebäugelt, doch nun nicht mehr gehofft, unseren langen, heiß ersehnten Wunsch jemals erfüllt zu sehen..."
Minna's relief was short-lived. Wagner soon fell in love with Otto Wesendonk's wife Mathilde, who provided the texts for his Wesendonk-Lieder and more particularly the immediate inspiration for Tristan und Isolde.
