Catalogue Note

A fine large quotation from one of the greatest and most influential passages in Berlioz's works.  The love scene was hailed by Wagner as one of the foremost examples of Romantic expression in orchestral music.  This manuscript was written during Berlioz's summer visit in 1858 to Baden-Baden, during which, at a concert on 17 August, he conducted the first four movements of the work.
