Catalogue Note
Bonnard's importance to the Nabis group is here shown clearly, even in a small pencil study. The Nabis were a group of artist friends who radically changed the face of painting leading up to the radical movements of the early 1900s. In the present work the pattern of the background is as important as the figure.
The authenticity of this work has kindly been confirmed by Guy-Patrice and Michel Dauberville.
