Description

The cushion-shaped sapphire weighing 14.15 carats, flanked by triangular and baguette diamonds, mounted in platinum, size 54, signed J. E. C. & Co. and numbered.

Literature

Founded in Philadelphia in 1839 by James Emmott Caldwell, the firm became officially known as J.E. Caldwell & Co in 1868. Known for its fine workmanship and exquisite examples of Art Nouveau and Art Deco pieces, the company continued to produce well made jewels that followed the trends and styles of the 20th century. J.E. Caldwell & Co closed its doors in 2009.

Condition

Stamped Pt 950 for platinum, signed J.E.C. & Co on the inner shank, numbered 2394. For further information on the sapphire, please refer to the Gübelin report. Good colour saturation, some typical crystal inclusions, a few minor nicks and abrasion to facet edges. Side diamonds estimated to weigh approximately 0.90 carats in total. Marks of solder, tarnish, scratches and normal signs of wear to the mount. In good condition.
