Emerald and diamond double clip/brooch, 1950s

Each clip of radiating scroll design highlighted with step-cut emeralds, brilliant-, single-cut and baguette diamonds.

Separates and can be worn as individual dress clips. Emeralds with some nicks, abrasion and scratches. Estimated total diamond weight approximately 8.00 - 9.00 carats, generally G-I colour (a few J-K), VS-SI clarity (a few I). Mounts with light scratches and tarnish to metal consistent with age and wear. Heavy brooch weighing approximately 50 grams. In good condition.

The Lady Claud Hamilton (Genesta) Born 1899 (daughter of Cuthbert Heath) Married Lord Claud Hamilton (son of 3rd Duke of Abercorn) Died 1991

For most of her adult life she lived between London and Kenya, where she owned and managed a large estate near Nakuru. They were friends and neighbours of Lord and Lady Delamere, but kept themselves slightly apart from most of the 'Happy Valley' set'.
 
She and her husband Lord Claud became very involved in the culture and welfare of the Masai people who worked for her.

Widowed in her later years, she continued to travel and to entertain with great elegance, until her death aged 93. 

Genesta (Ginny) published 'A Stone's Throw' her autobiography in 1986, and three earlier books: 'Fragments from Africa' ,1937,  'In the Wake of Da Gama' ,1951,  'Princes of Zinj' ,1957.
