Condition
a) Laid down at the edges to mount, which has caused slight discolouration at the left edge. There is also some surface dirt at the left edge, and in the lower section, parallel with the end of the stem, appears to have been a stain that has been scraped from the surface. Overall, however, the condition is good and the watercolour strong and fresh.
b) Laid down on mount. The sheet is slightly yellowed, more noticeably at the lower half of the sheet. Some slight discolouration at the edges where has been glued on the verso. Three tiny spot stains at the lower centre. Otherwise the sheet is in reasonably good condition, the watercolour still fresh.

Catalogue Note
Large-flowered 'dog' roses such as the Rosa Canina Grandiflora always attract attention, and several have become popular garden plants. This particular rose is thought to survive still in the wild.
The Rosa Indica Acuminata was the first white-flowered China hybrid to be introduced to the West, where it is now extinct. A variety of Rosa chinensis, it is still grown in China.
