Condition
Laid down on mount. A slight shadowing at the edges from the glue on the verso. A small vertical pencil line near the lower right corner, which is probably contemporary with the drawing. Some very slight surface dirt to the right of the rose flower, barely noticeable Otherwise the sheet is in excellent condition, the watercolour strong.

Catalogue Note
This single-flowered Gallica rose, now extinct, takes its names from the South African genus Stapelia, many of whose species were introduced to Europe by French nurserymen in Redouté's time.
