Catalogue Note
The Botanical Register (latterly Edwards's Botanical Register) was published in 33 volumes between 1815 and 1847 in three series, of which this comprises most of the first. Edwards (bap. 1768-1819) began his career as an illustrator to William Curtis's Botanical Magazine, a similar work to this. Original entomological drawings by Edwards are included in lot 26.
The work by Duppa contains 239 plates, which accords with the Cleveland Herbal Collection description, whereas Nissen calls for only 237. Some copies recorded at auction however have contained 240 plates.
