Catalogue Note

A large and uncut copy of this splendidly-produced work illustrating the American genus of tangaras and related genera. Pauline de Courcelles was a pupil of the famous ornithological artist Jacques Barraband, and the plates are very much in his style.

Desmarest (1784-1838) was a follower of Georges Cuvier and Alexandre Brongniart; in 1815, he became professor of zoology at the École nationale vétérinaire d'Alfort.
