Condition

This painting is generally in good condition. It is still stretched on its original stretcher. The paint layer is quite dusty and is un-varnished and dry. The applied silver ornaments around the heads of the Madonna, Joseph and Jesus and the staff being held by Joseph, are in good condition. There is some remnant of perhaps polish on the paint layer surrounding the applied elements, yet this is easy to remove. It is also more than likely that the applied elements could be returned to their original finish. The painting is generally in beautiful state. It should be lightly cleaned and varnished, and very little other restoration will be required. the upper right hand corner is slightly wavy because of the old stretching, but no attempts to correct this are recommended since it will probably involved a change of stretcher which may not be appropriate.
