Condition

The canvas is unlined. There are some pinholes in the lower edge and some in the right edge. They appear to be from a previous stretcher. There are some faint stretcher marks on the right side. There is a horizontal scratch extending out the center of the left side. Overall, this work appears to be in very good condition.

Catalogue Note

In the mid 1980's Matta did a wonderful series of monumental works exploring classical Greek mythology. These paintings, including Triumpheros, are populated with exuberant heroes and heroines, gods and goddesses, wood nymphs, chariots and satyrs, painted in white against blue and green backgrounds. Other works from this series include: La Belle Helene, Leda Demain and Eros Enfant.
