Description
- GOLD, SILVER, ENAMEL, DIAMONDS
Comprising: a mourning ring decorated with a ground of purple enamel applied with an urn decorated with blue and white enamel and highlighted with rose-cut diamonds, size G½, circa 1800; a bonbonniere, designed as a masked female face, her eyes set with single-cut diamonds, opening to reveal a compartment with a chased lid and frame, late 18th century; and a diamond brooch of entwined annular design set with circular-cut and rose diamonds, circa 1890.
Condition
Mourning ring: Stamped with a boar's head, Dutch duty mark. Losses to polychrome enamel on urn, purple enamel ground with some chips. One foliate element deficient. Shank was split and has been re-lined with another band. Scratches to polished surfaces and tarnish consistent with wear.
Bonbonniere: Chocolates or sweetmeats such as sugared Almonds were given as a gesture of affection in beautiful containers such as this one. Sugar was valuable and treasured as it was very expensive. Gilt metal, tarnished. Diamonds bright and lively (possibly added later). Hinge pin pertruding a little, bail worn.
Brooch: Mounted in silver and gold. Estimated total diamond weight approximately 6.50 - 7.50 carats, estimated colour approximately G-I, some J, estimated clarity SI on average, some I. Sliding safety catch to pin, stiff. Collection in overall good condition.
