ENAMEL, GEM-SET AND DIAMOND VANITY CASE, CIRCA 1925

Description

The cylindrical case decorated with a black and red enamel with Japanese scenes of inlaid mother-of-pearl, millegrain-set with rose-cut diamonds, opening to reveal a mirrored compartment for rouge and a lipstick, a concealed ivory writing tablet and pencil, measurements approximately 78mm x 38mm x25mm, French assay and maker's marks, chain deficient, Chinese 'Shou', character for happiness, set with rose-cut diamonds, later added.

Partially numbered to inside edge, numbered 2985 to inside of rouge compartment and end of lipstick holder. Carrying chain deficient. Chinese 'Shou' symbol added later to the inside of the case, two drilled elements into the Japanese waterfall landscape to front. Thumb piece set with calibré-cut onyx. Traces of lipstick. Minor scratches consistent to age and wear. In good condition.
