Please note that measurements in inches are incomplete in the printed catalogue and should read 25 3/4 x 21 3/8 in. The canvas is not lined. There is some shrinkage along the right edge of the composition inherent to the artistic process. Apart from eight scattered minor spots of retouching located around the edges of the composition, visible under UV light, this work is in very good condition.

"On s'aperçoit alors que tout a un intérêt égal, que la figure humaine, le corps humain n'est pas plus important dans l'intérêt plastique qu'un arbre, une plante, un fragment de rocher, un cordage. Il s'agit de composer un tableau avec ces objets en ayant soin de choisir ceux qui peuvent réaliser une composition. C'est une question de choix de la part de l'artiste.

Un exemple : si je compose un tableau en utilisant comme objet un fragment d'écorce d'arbre, un fragment d'aile de papillon avec cela une forme purement imaginée, il est probable que vous ne reconnaîtrez pas l'écorce d'arbre ni l'aile de papillon et vous direz : qu'est-ce que cela représente? C'est un tableau abstrait, non c'est un tableau représentatif.

...Jamais on ne doit juger un tableau en comparaison des éléments plus ou moins naturels. Un tableau a une valeur en lui-même, comme une partition musicale, comme un poème."
