Condition

This painting is in a very good state. The canvas has been lined, not recently, and should remain. The paint layer appears to be slightly dirty and the varnish is old yet looks well. The painting is not abraded despite the artist intentionally scraping numerous areas of the paint layer. Under Ultraviolet light a few very tiny and random spots of retouching have been added in the right side beneath the dancers and in a couple of spots in the upper right. Overall, however, this picture is unrestored. The above condition report has been provided by Simon Parkes of Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc. 502 East 74th St. New York, NY 212-734-3920, simonparkes@msn.com , an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's.
