Condition

This painting is unlined. It is unvarnished and the unfinished sections are visible, mainly lower left. Under UV light: there is an area of inpainting in the center sky running vertically from the top edge to the green point; one diagonal line in the upper left of the sky; other scattered areas including trees at left and three dark patches upper right corner and one dark patch lower right corner. These dark patches are visible to the naked eye. The paint layer is dry and there is fine craquelure in the areas of white pigment. Some paint loss and craquelure in green area at extreme lower center edge. There is a freshness to the picture and it seems never to have been cleaned. Like many of Delaunay’s pictures, it has suffered somewhat over the years. Please contact the department for the restorer’s recommendation for treatment of the painting.
