Catalogue Note

Accompanied by an extract from the Archives confirming production in 1990 and sale on November 30th, 1990

Only 15-20 examples of reference 3800/1 in platinum have reappeared on the market. Reference 3800 was manufactured from 1981 until 2006 although the platinum reference was listed only until 2002.

The first Nautilus timepiece to start the collection appeared in 1976 and was created by the watch designer Gerald Genta. The design of the sporty Nautilus was inspired by sea vessels and their portholes in particular. At the time of its launch, fine timepieces were traditionally produced in gold so it was unusual to find the Nautilus featuring an unconventionally oversized and uniquely shaped steel case. Rapidly the Nautilus became the embodiment of a powerful and casually elegant timekeeping design that would later become an iconic model in Patek Philippe's collection.
