Catalogue Note
The Ref. 6238, so called the 'Pre-Daytona', is considered among collectors as one of the most desirable examples of chronograph models. It was launched in 1960 and was the last reference with a polished bezel. An exceedingly small series was cased in 14K gold and exclusively reserved for the North American market. This is a rare example of this reference as it was retailed by Tiffany & Co, as featured on the dial.
Reference 6238 is described and illustrated in Cronografi Rolex - La Leggenda, Pucci Papaleo Editore, pp. 278 - 291.
