  • A FINE 18K GOLD, ENAMEL AND PEARL-SET WATCH, MADE FOR THE CHINESE MARKET1819 NO 9069
  • diameter 62 mm
• gilt cylinder movement, the balance cock pierced and engraved with scrolls and trophies, dust cover engraved with foliate scrolls • white enamel dial, Roman numerals, subsidiary seconds • fluted band, the back with a polychrome enamel burst of summer flowers against a scalloped translucent enamel mustard yellow ground over engine-turning surrounded by rings of white and pale blue opaque enamel, bezel and pendant set with split pearls • movement signed, case stamped with casemaker's mark LC, the case also hallmarked, London 1819

Condition

The movemen runs when wound. The dial is in nice intact condition with no hairlines. The dial is rather loose and will need to be better secured. It is missing its subsidiary seconds hand. The case appears to be in overall clean and nice condition. The enamel panel to the back appears to be nice and intact. The pearls to the bow are now lacking.

Baillie records that Charman was working in London around 1805. The casemaker's mark of LC most likely represents Louis Comtesse (Comptesse).
