This painting has been recently restored. The canvas has been treated on the reverse with Beva-371 and a thin layer of crepeline. The paint layer is stable. The canvas is not lined but the tacking edges have been reinforced. The picture should be hung as is. This picture, typically for the artist, is painted in an extremely creative and unique fashion, employing applied areas of texture in the forehead, the cheek and either side of the chin. Additionally there is sand or some kind of fine granular texture which has also been applied to the surface or mixed in to the paint, and on top of that there is a remnant of a thin brown glaze or possibly dirt which is trapped in some of the picture. Nonetheless, the picture looks as it should. There are no damages or paint losses and there are essentially no retouches addressing anything other than very small unevenness to the glaze in a couple of areas. The picture is in beautiful state and should be hung as is.
