- Twenty-One Engraved Scarabs and Intaglios Set into a 19th Century Gold necklace

- Lengths 0.4 to 0.7 in. 1 to 1.8 cm. Length of necklace approx. 14 in 35.6 cm.
Comprising 5 Egyptian stone scarabs, 6 Etruscan carnelian scarabs and 10 Roman period to 19th Century glass and hardstone intagios, mounted en escalvage in a necklace of late 19th Century date, length approximately 14 inches.
Condition
Comprising five Egyptian stone scarabs and scaraboids with inscriptions (one a green glazed scaraboid in the form of an Eye of Horus), six Etruscan carnelian scarabs engraved repectively with a nude youth on an equine, a deer, a sacrifice scene(?), Herakles with club and bow, Pegasus, and a kneeling warrior, and ten Roman carnelian and other stone intaglios, some possibly later, engraved respectively with Aeneas, accompanied by Ascanius, carrying his father Anchises on the Flight from Troy, a nereid and sea monster (?) in nicolo, a ram-headed scarab beetle in garnet, a warrior carrying a dead comrade across his shoulders, an erotic group, a deity, Nike-Fortuna, Fortuna with cornucopia and rudder, Hermes with kerkyeion, and a predatory bird holding a snake. All pieces in good condition other than some minor abrading.
