Catalogue Note

The present wine coolers are identical to a group of coolers in the collections of The Duke of Devonshire  currently on display in the State Dining Room at Chatsworth, Derbyshire. They are also of a strikingly similar form to some known to have been supplied to Prince Callimachi, the Turkish Ambassador to France in 1849 by the Birmingham manufactering silversmiths and platers of Collis & Co who had a shop in Regents Street in London. These wine coolers were illustrated in 1849 in The Illustrated London News, London, Saturday, 29th September 1849, p.213.
