Description

  • papier mache, brass and fishskin
  • 9cm. 3½ in. diameter
with twelve engraved and hand-coloured gores, signed in a cartouche CARY'S Pocket GLOBE; agreeable to the latest DISCOVERIES, Pub. by J & W Cary, Strand, London, Apr 1, 1791, detailed mapping showing the tracks of Cook's and others voyages and with comments such as Here the adventure parted company and Owyhee where Captain Cook was killed 1779,  with iron polar pins, in a fishskin case, the hemispheres applied with further engraved and coloured gores, one inscribed The World as known in CAESAR'S Time agreeable to D'Anville, the other inscribed A TABLE of Latitudes & Longitudes of Places not given on this GLOBE,
