Condition
Very good condition overall. Small very minor restoration to the female's neck, one minor scratch to the man's cheek. Black background probably retouched.

Catalogue Note
L'art de modeler la cire était très en vogue à la cour de Rodolphe II à Prague à la fin du XVIe et au début du XVIIe siècle. Le médailleur italien Antonio Abondio le jeune (1538-1591) étiat virtuose dans ce domaine et réalisa médailes, plaquettes et reliefs en cire illustrant l'aristocratie de son teps à la demande de Rodolphe II. Une paire de reliefs figurait dans la collection du British Rail Pension Fund (sa vente à Sotheby'sLondres, 4 juillet 1996, lots 57 et 58), une paire d'aristocrates très proches aux notres appartenait au cabinet des curiosités de Luigi Koelliker (sa vente à Sotheby's Londres, 3 déc. 2008, lot 51).
