Standard surface abrasions and small dents. Lovely light chocolate brown patina and remainders of dark brown lacquer. Chipping and small losses to bases. Otherwise, overall very good condition.

The present compositions are closely related to figures of putti seen in the engravings of François Girardon's sculpture collection, La Galerie de Girardon, by Nicolas Chevalier after R. Charpentier around 1709 (fig. 1). They are there noted as being by François Duquesnoy.

A similar pair of bronzes are in the Wallace Collection, London (Wenley 2003, op. cit., pp. 82-83) although the figure of Cupid is a mirror image of the Sackler figure.
