Condition
General surface abrasions and small losses and chipping throughout (particularily around base) loss to her proper right hand, to angel's and putto's wings. Some restorations include: two places on the edge of her veil, to her proper left arm and little finger on her hand. Surface refreshed with gold paint.

The present model recalls the work of Melchiorre Cafà, the Maltese master who created the marble altarpiece of the same subject in Santa Caterina a Monte Magnanapoli, Rome (completed 1667). Draper (New York 1981, op. cit., p. 15) notes the vigorous work on the reverse of the terracotta which is also reminiscent of Cafà's terracottas.
