Description

  • Together with a bloodstone seal with silver-gilt mounts set with pastes
  • gold, hardstone
  • heights approximately 2 1/4 in. to 3 3/8 in.
  • 5.7cm, 8.4cm
comprising: one pear-shaped seal with chalcedony handle with fluted and scroll-chased base, the bloodstone matrix carved with English arms, another with bloodstone handle and fluted base, carnelian matrix carved with English arms, a third with scroll-chased gold base and malachite handle, possibly replaced, carved with crest and motto, the last formed as a smoky quartz shard, the gold mounts engraved "Mount Sinai 1849" above pseudo calligraphy and with 18th century agate intaglio of a woman fishing for cupids

Provenance

The arms on the chalcedony seal are those of Pearson and on the bloodstone seal possibly Crossman.  Another engraved Mount Sinai, 1849
