Catalogue Note

Lac Nissedel is in the Telemark area of Norway. Gagnon travelled extensively through Europe from 1926 to 1936 and Norway was a country he returned to visit and paint on several occasions.

At a memorial exhibition of Gagnon's work, Jean-Marie Gauvreau remarked:

In the sketches brought back from Norway, scarcely larger than a postcard, there is astounding energy and verve; a freshness of tone that is truly voluptuous, rapid and seductive.
