Catalogue Note

Casson had sketched as far north as Lake Superior with Harris, Carmichael and Jackson, but the demands of his work and a change in his interest in subject matter persuaded him to choose subjects that were more domestic in nature. He completed a series of sketches on the theme of small Ontario towns in 1927. About the time October - Maple Lake was completed, he began to devote hiself to more rugged subject matter he could find closer to home.
