Catalogue Note

Although Thoreau MacDonald has dated the sketch c. 1926, on the reverse, it is known that MacDonald painted at the Gull River site in Ontario's Victoria County in 1918.

His greatest work from Gull River is a 1918 canvas titled Cattle by the Creek in the collection of the National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa.
