Catalogue Note

Casson found his favourite subjects in the small towns and villages, the farms, and the landscape of rural Ontario. This particular subject was just north of Toronto in what is now a well-populated and affluent area of the city.

This fine sketch was probably done on a one-day excursion trip that he would take on the weekend, frequently with his painting companion Joachim Gauthier. The mixture of houses, barns and sheds depicted here were typical of the small towns of the time.
