Catalogue Note

With both love and wit, Pachter has frequently turned his hand to the depiction of some of Canada's familiar symbols. The now-replaced Toronto street cars were first, then variations on the Canadian Moose, including a saluting Queen Elizabeth astride one, then the Supreme Court Justices depicted as the Supremes, and then his well-known paintings of our flag, which led, inevitably to a postage stamp that owes its spirit to his various paintings of this national icon.

His contributions to our pride and our sense of humour will be recognized by an Honorary Degree at the University of Toronto this spring.
