Catalogue Note
Dallaire developed a very distinctive and whimsical style early in his career. His use of joyous colours and fanciful characters often betrays a darker and slightly macabre tone which is clearly indebted to Surrealism. This work was painted in 1945, shortly after Dallaire was released from the internment camp where he was incarcerated during the Second World War.
