Description
- William Matthew Prior
- Portrait of Young Boy with Green Jacket and Book
- oil on panel
- 13 1/2 in. by 10 in.
painted circa 1830; in what appears to be the original frame.
Provenance
Sotheby Parke-Bernet, New York, Sale 4784, Lot 46;
The Collection of Colonel Edgar William and Bernice Chrysler Garbisch, accession number 57.55.
Condition
The painting is mounted on masonite and there is considerable in-painting throughout the face, brow and central area of the picture. There is dirt trapped under old varnish. The restoration has been crudely done, porbably in the 1940's and probably could be done better, which would much improve its appearance
