painted and silk-stitched on silk in long and chenille stitches, the appliques silk panel inscribed to Robert Ellis; the reverse inscribed in 19th Century hand. In what appears to be the original frame and stretcher.  On the back, there is a paper label inscribed, "My beloved Mother's work, representing Grandfather Ellis' tomb and my Grandmother with my Aunt in her arms, and my Mother standing by."
