  • Height 40 1/2 in.
front seat lip is replaced.  Chair is marked IV and original slipseat is marked VI. Label on slipseat: this chair belonged to "Aunt Shoemaker" - A/Great - Aunt of Grandmother H. Williams/ it's probably 175 years old. J.W. 1927.
On the chair rail is a label that says:  these two high-back chairs belonged to Great - Gr/ Aunt Shoemaker - (on Williams Branch)/ dates about 1720. In ink J.W.

Descended in the Shoemaker family.

Condition

Secondary wood is yellow pine; front seat lip is replaced. Proper right back corner of crest rail cracked and reglued. Inside face of rear seat rail and inside of back section of side seat rails with later screw holes. These holes are the evidence of two L-bracket likely added to the back of the chair at some point to stabilize the chair.
