Description

  • Height 55 1/4 in. by Width 39 in. by Depth 18 in.
appears to retain its original finish, hardware and central finial. While this bonnet-top form is normally made with a lower case with drawers, the bracket feet appear to be original to this case section and there is no evidence that it was supported by any other means. Underside of shell-carved drawer inscribed in ink: was given by my cousin, Miss Eliza A. / Hutchins of Columbia, Conn, as a Birthday present. / May 11, 1921.  It had been in her family for over / fifty years - but originally was the property / of my grandfather John Armstrong. and / myself.  It is my wish that this Bureau / should eventually be given to my niece / Marjorie Hutchins Holt / signed / (Mrs.) Jennie Armstrong (Holt) Richardson. / Springfield, Mass. July 6 - 1921

Condition

Secondary wood is poplar and chestnut; base detached and is now separate. NOTE: Proper right rear foot lacking bottom 5 inches. Never appears to have been off until recently for examination. While this bonnet-top form is normally made with a lower case section with drawers, the current bracket feet frame appears to be original to the top case section and there is no evidence that it was supported by any other base than the present one.
