Description

  • marked on underside of body. Together with a copy of David Delman's book "The Bluestocking: The Story of the Famous Forrest Divorce Case" (1994).

embossed and chased overall with scrolling grapevine and applied with grape bunches, one side engraved with contemporary presentation inscription, the opposite side with a coat-of-arms, with bi-furcated grapevine handles, and conforming domed cover with grape bunch finial, surmounted on a detachable domed base with pendant grapes and grape feet and with removable collar

Provenance

En suite with the precedeing lot and engraved: "Presented to Charles O'Conor Esq. by his Associates at the New York Bar, to evince their appreciation of the Integrity which has distinguished him as a Man and an Advocate; and of the Zeal, Disinterestedness, Learning and Eloquence which have rendered his Professional Career Illustrious. 1852."
Left by O'Conor to the New York Law Institute on his death in 1884.
