Description

  • comprising: Plate, Cup, Saucer, Napkin Ring, Knife, Fork and Spoon, each marked, plate numbered 11085-6650, cup and saucer 2942-6650, flatware 808

each chased and engraved with shellwork and floral sprays, and etched with foliate script monogram AVD, the underside of the plate engraved with presentation inscription and the silhouettes of all the pieces in the set, in fitted wood case, the cover inscribed "Aline Van Duzer 1889"

the plate, saucer , fork and interior of cup with some salt stains, otherwise good condition

Catalogue Note

The presentation inscription reads: "Aline Van Duzer From Grandpa & Grandma Van Duzer June 14tth 1889".

Aline Van Duzer was born on 14 June 1889 in London, where her father, Frederick Conkling Van Duzer, was president of the American Society in London.  On 4 June 1912 she married Captain Robert Eugene Crane, the son of an American attorney living abroad.  Aline's paternal grandparents were Selah Reeve Van Duzer (1823-1903) and Catherine Mathews Sayre Van Duzer (1828-1904).  Selah Van Duzer was one of the most prominent wholesale druggists in the United States, with offices in New York, London and Paris.  A silver yacht club trophy presented by Mr. Van Duzer is to be offered as lot 373 in this sale.
