Description

  • wood, Ring-necked Pheasant (Phasianus colchicus) feathers
appears in the Mixed Kachina Dance, holding a small globular rattle in his clenched right fist and a bow in the other, wearing a traditional white kilt tied with a painted embroidered sash, the elaborate case mask, in black, with protruding snout, red lips parted to reveal rows of white teeth, pop-eyes, depictions of a crescent moon and star on the cheeks, surmounted by a headdress composed of Ring-necked Pheasant (Phasianus colchicus) feathers.

Condition

Hairline split in the skirt, as evidenced in the illustration (stable). Right arm broken at forearm and re-glued with original piece. Both horns broken and re-glued with original piece. Painted surface is dusty but in very good original condition with typical age and minor abrasion.
