Condition

Overall very good condition. The silver painted frame in good condition with some rubbing and chips to the painted surface revealing the white underpaint. This is concentrated to the edges and adjacent to the hinges. The glass portion of the screen appears to be comprised of two plates of the amber glass with painting to the reverse of the front panel. The reverse painted decoration is in good condition. With some minor scratches to the surface. The proper left panel and other areas of the black sky portion of the decorative scheme with some minor losses to the paint, which give the appearance of craquelure. This does not impact the overall decorative scheme of the screen and is restricted to the black sky portion of the design. The back of the screen is not decorated and appears to be silver leaf, laid down in squares, which matches the rest of the frame. There are several areas of crude restoration with silver paint, probably done in the 1950s-1960s, as this work was previously stored away since 1972.
