Description

  • Harry Bertoia
  • Bowl
  • incised HB and with Cranbrook monogram
  • hand-hammered brass

  • executed at the Cranbrook Academy of Art, Bloomfield Hills, MI

Provenance

Acquired directly from the artist by a Cranbrook student, 1941

Condition

Overall excellent condition. This rare object dates from Bertoia’s time at Cranbrook, like the Grotell piece on the opposite page. Hand-hammered as evidenced by the slight irregularities in the decorative surface treatment. Some spots of oxidation to the interior, but with few signs of its age and use. This work is a rare treasure from Bertoia’s early career.
