Catalogue Note

Of all of Kem Weber's designs for Porter Blanchard, perhaps the one that is most relevant to his streamlined furniture is the centerpiece, which is so rare that only one other example is known to exist in a private Los Angeles collection.  In a 1930 article published in "The Studio" on Weber, the model is illustrated on the famed dining suite produced by the Grand Rapids Furniture Company, which is now divided up amongst several American museums.

The present lot will be illustrated in the forthcoming monograph by Christopher Long, "Kem Weber and the Rise of Modern Design in Southern California."
